Volleyball Falls to Jacksonville in Three Sets

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team wrapped up its weekend in the Crimson Tide Invitational by facing Jacksonville on Saturday (Aug. 30), and the Bulldogs fell in three sets (25-17, 25-20, 25-21) to the Dolphins.
A block assist from Baylor Herlehy and Albertine van der Goot got Asheville the first point of the day, but that would be the Bulldogs' only lead of the first set as the Dolphins responded by scoring eight of the next nine points. Jacksonville worked its way out to a nine-point lead, and Asheville was unable to perform a comeback.
Asheville opened the second set with back-to-back kills from Addie Brookbank and Kylie Cackovic, but Jacksonville responded with the next four points. Asheville would go on to tie the score four times, but the Bulldogs were unable to move into the lead, and Jacksonville took a 2-0 match lead.
In a similar fashion to sets one and two, Asheville took an early lead (5-3) before Jacksonville responded by tying the score at five. A kill from Cackovic put Asheville back in the lead, before the Dolphins moved ahead 7-6. A setting error tied the score at seven before a Jacksonville kill sparked a 7-1 run to put the Dolphins ahead 14-8. The Dolphins led for the remainder of the match and completed the three-set sweep.
Cackovic had a game-high 13 kills, followed by Brookbank with seven. Selena Koç led the team with 20 assists and added nine digs to her stat line. Michelle Thao had 13 digs.
Asheville returns to the court Sept. 5-6, as the Bulldogs host the Bulldog Invitational in the Justice Center. Asheville's first match of the tournament will be on Friday at 12 p.m. against West Georgia.
