ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville cross country program announced on Monday (Aug. 25) its competition schedule for the 2025 season.
"I am excited about both our men's and women's teams this season. We bring back a lot of talent on both sides, while also bringing in quality newcomers," said Adam Puett, Head Cross Country Coach. "Our pre-season training camp has gone very well, and we came back after summer in shape and ready to compete hard for the Bulldogs."
The teams will compete in four regular season meets ahead of the Big South Conference Championships at the end of October.
REGULAR SEASON
Asheville will take a unique approach to the start of its season, opening with a "Duel in the Valley" head-to-head contest against Western Carolina University. The event will take place at Kituwah Mound in Bryson City, N.C., on Aug. 29. The Bulldogs will then travel to Furman University on Sept. 13 for the Furman Invitational in Greenville, S.C. - where 19 personal bests were set last year - before heading to Louisville, Ky., for the Live in Lou Classic. Asheville will close out the regular season at the USC Upstate Invite in Spartanburg, S.C., on Oct. 18.
"I feel really excited about the upcoming cross country season. The courses seem to be tough but we are all working hard to prepare for that," said Aneta Kucerová, highest female finisher for Asheville in the 2024 season. "I believe we have a really strong team physically and mentally."
CHAMPIONSHIP SEASON
This year's Big South Championships will be hosted by Longwood University on Oct. 31 in Farmville, Va. Longwood first hosted the Championships in 2022. The NCAA Southeast Regionals will be held on Nov. 14 in Charlottesville, Va., and the NCAA National Championships will take place in Columbia, Mo., on Nov. 22.
"Team mentality is really good this season, and we are all working towards the same goal. I strongly believe we have lots of depth, and I'm excited to have a fast race at Louisville and then show our work on the hilly course at Longwood," said Jan Málek, fastest male returner this season for Asheville.
