Three Bulldogs Named All-Stars in Summer League Play

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville baseball players Nic Melton, Jake Pereira and Patrick Gillen have been named All-Stars in their respective summer leagues. Â

Melton has appeared in eight games for the Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, logging 17.1 innings allowing 16 hits and nine runs (two earned) with nine walks and 15 strikeouts. He also holds a 4-1 record on the bump with a 1.03 earned run average.

Pereira has played in 22 games for the Clayton Clovers of the Old North State League posting a .314 batting average, .443 on-base percentage and an .815 OPS with 22 hits. He has totaled four doubles, 21 runs scored, 14 walks and 10 stolen bases on the season.

Gillen has appeared in 21 games for the Bristol State Liners of the Appalachian League, ranking second in the league with a .427/.527/.573 slash line with 32 hits including six doubles, one triple and one home run. He has scored 12 runs and also driven in 23, while also drawing 16 walks.
