Matt Frost Announces Resignation as UNC Asheville Men's Tennis Head Coach

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Janet R. Cone, Director of Athletics announced today, June 25, 2025 that Matt Frost, Head Men's Tennis Coach has resigned effective June 30 to prioritize his family and to pursue other opportunities. A national search will begin immediately.
"We are grateful for the tremendous impact Coach Frost has made on UNC Asheville and our men's tennis program," said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "Matt has dedicated countless hours to developing our student-athletes and elevating our program to unprecedented heights. We will miss him and his family and wish them all the best."
Frost was appointed head men's tennis coach on May 22, 2023. In just two seasons, he compiled a 28-18 record while guiding Asheville to back-to-back Big South Conference Championship match appearances for the first time in the program's Division I history. In his inaugural 2023-24 season, Frost led the Bulldogs to the program's first Big South Conference Championship since 1986 and the team's first-ever NCAA Tournament berth.
During his tenure, Frost coached ten Big South All-Conference honorees and helped the program earn Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic Team recognition. This past season, Senior Olle Sonesson Lidholt earned Big South Conference Co-Newcomer of the Year, while Junior Tarek Erlewein was named Big South Conference Scholar Athlete of the Year.
"It has been an incredible honor to serve as the head men's tennis coach at UNC Asheville, and I am proud of what we were able to achieve in my time here," said Frost. "While this was a difficult decision, I believe it's the right time for my family and me to explore new opportunities. I have complete confidence that AD Cone will find an outstanding successor."
