ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis has accepted an invitation to compete in the UTR Sports NIT Championships, announced today (Friday, May 2) by head coach Matt Frost. This is the second time in program history that the Bulldogs will compete in postseason play, and the second consecutive year after last season's NCAA Tournament appearance.
"This is an exciting opportunity for our men's tennis program to get to play in the postseason and reward our players for another excellent year," said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone.
This will be the third installment of the tournament, with eight teams selected on both the men's and women's sides to form the bracket. Joining UNC Asheville on the men's side will be New Mexico State, Chattanooga, North Carolina Central, Rider and Saint Mary's.
UNC Asheville is 12-9 on the season and 2-1 in the Big South Conference, having finished runner-up in the 2025 Big South Conference Championship.
"Receiving this opportunity is special!" said head coach Matt Frost. "It provides us with the chance to compete for a championship and keep the postseason going. I'm grateful to UTR, it shows that we're a competitive program going in the right direction."
The tournament will take place May 7-9 in Rome, Ga.
