Two Major Awards Highlight Asheville Men's Tennis All-Conference Awards

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis collected two major awards to highlight their All-Conference selections, announced by the Big South Conference today (Wednesday, Apr. 16). Senior Olle Sonesson Lidholt was named the Co-Newcomer of the Year, while senior Tarek Erlewein was named the Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
 
Along with his inaugural Co-Newcomer of the Year honor, Lidholt was also named to the All-Conference Second Team for Singles while he and Erlewein were named a Second Team All-Conference tandem in doubles.
 
Lidholt won eight matches in singles play including one in conference and five at his No. 3 position, while he and Erlewein went 2-1 at No. 2 doubles in conference and 2-2 on the season.
 
These are Lidholt's first three Big South postseason honors of his career. The Malmo, Sweden native is a computer science major.
 
In addition to Erlewein's Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor and spot on the Big South Conference All-Academic Team, he was named to the All-Conference First Team in Singles and to the All-Conference Second Team along with Lidholt in Doubles. Erlewein posted 11 wins in singles play, including going a perfect 3-0 in conference and earning the last two Big South Conference Player of the Week honors of the regular season. Academically, Erlewein boasts a 3.99 grade point average in a double major of business and economics. UNC Asheville now has had back-to-back Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards for the first time since Charlie Morkel in 2020 and 2021.
 
These are Erlewein's first four Big South Conference postseason honors of his career. He is a native of Stuhr, Germany.
 
Freddy Murray was named to the All-Conference Singles First Team, while he and Cian Ingles were named to the All-Conference Second Team in doubles.
 
Murray posted 11 wins at No. 1 singles including one in conference, while he and Ingles went 3-2 as a doubles pair including one win in conference.
 
These are Murray's third and fourth career All-Conference honors. The Belfast, Northern Ireland native is an economics major.
 
This is Ingles's second career All-Conference honor. He is a native of Perth, Australia.
 
The Bulldogs (11-8, 2-1 Big South Conference) take on Longwood in the Big South Conference semifinals tomorrow (Thursday, Apr. 17). First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from the Lexington County Tennis Complex in Lexington, S.C. with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
