Asheville Men's Tennis Sweeps Big South Conference Weekly Awards

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
 
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis swept the Big South Conference weekly awards for the final week of the regular season, announced by the conference today (Tuesday, Apr. 15). Tarek Erlewein was named Player of the Week for the second straight week, while Sai Gandepalli earned Freshman of the Week honors.
 
Asheville went 1-1 last week, falling to UNC Greensboro 5-2 on Tuesday (Apr. 8) before beating Longwood 5-2 on Sunday (Apr. 13) to secure the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Big South Conference Championships.
 
Against UNCG, Erlewein's doubles match went unfinished but he did hold a lead before winning 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Against Longwood, He teamed up with Olle Sonesson Lidholt for a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles before winning at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-0.
 
This is Erlewein's second career Player of the Week honor. The Stuhr, Germany native is a double major in business and economics.
 
Against Longwood, Gandepalli picked up a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles with Griffin Lovern before winning 6-0, 6-3 at No. 4 singles.
 
This is Gandepalli's first career Freshman of the Week honor. The Wallington, Great Britain native is a business major.
 
The Bulldogs (11-8, 2-1 Big South Conference) return to action on Thursday (Apr. 17) facing No. 3 Longwood in the Big South Conference Championship semifinals. First serve is set for 2:00 p.m. from Lexington, S.C. with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
