Orianegbena Notches Rebounding Career-High in Loss to High Point

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball saw Deborah Orianegbena pull down a career-high 15 rebounds in a 66-52 loss to High Point on Saturday (Feb. 8) inside Kimmel Arena. Orianegbena's 15 rebounds are the most in a single game for a Bulldog since Brooke Jordan-Brown pulled down 23 against Presbyterian on Dec. 28, 2019.
 
The teams traded scores for the first 10 minutes, before High Point closed the quarter on a 7-5 run to take a 17-10 lead to the second quarter.
 
Asheville scored nine points to High Point's 17 in the second quarter, as High Point stretched their lead to the half.
 
Asheville won the third quarter 19-15 to cut into the deficit, but High Point would win the fourth quarter 17-14 to bring the game to its final score.
 
Asheville shot 35.8 percent (19-53) from the field including 25 percent (5-20) from three-point range, along with 69.2 percent (9-13) from the foul line in the game. Asheville outscored High Point 8-4 on second chances, 16-15 on fast breaks and 20-16 off the bench in the game along with scoring two points off turnovers and 26 points in the paint. Skylar Bailey finished one point off her career-high with 11 points in the game, while Dakota McCaughan had 10 and Abigail Wilson and LaImani Simmons each had nine points. Alana Swift scored seven points off the bench, while Sydney Burris added four points and Taylor Wilkins chipped in two. Asheville handled High Point 45-30 in rebounding in the game, paced by Orianegbena's game-high 15 rebounds. McCaughan and Wilson each had six rebounds in the game, while Burris grabbed five and Simmons had three. Wilkins pulled down two rebounds in the game, while Bailey, Jazlyn Ware and Swift each had one rebound in the game. Simmons led the way with three assists in the game for Asheville, while McCaughan and Swift each had two in the game. Wilkins and Orianegbena each also had one assist in the game. McCaughan, Swift and Burris each had one steal in the game for Asheville, while Bailey and Burris each had one block in the game.  
 
The Bulldogs return to the floor on Wednesday (Feb. 12) to host USC Upstate in the Ingles I-26 Rivalry. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m. from Kimmel Arena, with video, live stats, audio and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
