Edmundson Earns Bronze in 200 Fly, Women's Swimming and Diving Has Strong Day at ASUN Championships

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving had a strong day on day three of the ASUN Championships on Friday (Feb. 21), led by senior Riley Edmundson earning the team's first podium finish of the championships with a bronze medal finish in the 200 fly. Asheville sits in fourth place in the team standings through three days of competition.

Grace Adams led the Bulldogs with a seventh-place finish in the 100 back in 56.15, while Savanna Bush finished 15th in a lifetime-best 57.21 and Andie Quisumbing posted a 16th-place finish in 57.32. Gracelyn Cox posted a seventh-place finish in the 100 breast in a lifetime-best 1:03.63, while Alyssa Jackson posted a 12th-place finish in 1:04.54. Edmundson's bronze medal in the 200 fly earned a time of 2:01.29, while Caroline Crouse finished fourth in a season-best 2:02.17. Chloe McDonald took sixth in a lifetime-best 2:04.24, while Julie Lahiff finished ninth in a lifetime-best 2:03.59 and Taylor Smith took 15th in a lifetime-best 2:09.13. The 800 free relay team of Caitlin Hefner, Adams, Beatrice Cocconcelli and Anna Marcotti also finished fourth in 7:29.22.

Asheville had five swimmers in the A finals and five in the B finals with eight season-best times and three lifetime-best times through the morning prelims.

Adams paced the Bulldogs in the 100 back, qualifying for the A final with a seventh-place finish in a season-best time of 56.11. Quisumbing (56.71) and Bush (57.31) finished 12th and 14th respectively in season-best times to qualify for the B finals in the event. Amelia Presley also swam a season-best 1:00.14 in the event. Cox qualified for the A final in the 100 breast with a sixth-place finish in 1:03.75, while Jackson posted a 15th-place finish in 1:04.83 to qualify for the B final .Miriam Wheatley (1:05.29) and Olivia Ciancimino (1:07.80) each also posted season-best times in the event. Edmundson paced the Bulldogs with a second-place finish in the 200 fly in a season-best 2:02.07 to qualify for the A final, while Crouse posted a season-best time to finish fourth (2:03.95) and McDonald posted a lifetime-best to finish sixth (2:04.29). Lahiff posted a ninth-place finish in a lifetime-best 2:04.62 to qualify for the B finals, while Smith also qualified for the B finals with a 16th-place finish in 2:09.72. Tess Peny also swam a season-best 2:07.94 in the event.

Kindal Culpepper paced the Bulldogs in platform diving with a seventh-place finish with a score of 170.95, while Amelia Ward placed eighth 168.80. Morgan Coughlen placed 11th with a score of 150.30, while Jade Canady (148.80) placed 12th and Leigha Travis (147.90) finished 13th. Today marked the final performance of Canady, Coughlen and Culpepper's careers at UNC Asheville. Â
