Women's Swimming and Diving Earns Split with Campbell and Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving earned a split in its double-dual on Saturday (Feb. 1), beating Campbell 284-63 and dropping their contest with Liberty 192-161.

The day began with one-meter diving, seeing the Bulldog divers post their best collective finish ever in a dual against Liberty. Jade Canady (223.90) and Vivian Fougeron (220.50) each scored points for the Bulldogs finishing second and third in the event respectively. The 4x50 free relay saw Asheville pick up four points against Liberty and 11 points against Campbell, with Savanna Bush, Beatrice Cocconcelli, Chloe McDonald and Anna Marcotti finishing in 1:46.84. The quartet of Meli Presley, Miriam Wheatley, Andie Quisumbing and Taylor Smith also picked up points on Campbell with a 1:49.68 finish. Caitlin Hefner earned nine huge points against both teams with a win in the mile in 17:03.79, while Grace Adams added points finishing the mile in 17:03.95, while Kathryn Walters (17:46.65) and Rose Sciaudone (18:04.04) also picked up points against Campbell in the event. Marcotti picked up points in the 100 free in 51.62, while Cocconcelli also earned points finishing in 52.35 along with one point against Campbell from Olivia Ciancimino in 54.80. Bush earned huge points for Asheville in the 200 back in 2:09.13, while Presley (2:11.96), Tess Peny (2:13.18) and Alessia Cunegatti (2:13.34) also earned points against Campbell. Asheville picked up 13 points on Campbell in the 200 breast with Cocconcelli picking up a win in 2:22.00 and Julie Lahiff finishing just behind her in 2:22.16. Gracelyn Cox (2:24.38) and Wheatley (2:26.13) also earned points against Campbell. McDonald picked up huge points in the 100 fly in 56.23, while Smith (58.29) and Quisumbing (59.31) each also earned points against both teams in the event. Riley Edmundson paced the Bulldogs with huge points against both teams in the 200 IM in 2:07.71, while Lahiff picked up points behind her in 2:08.65 and Anna Kate Halligan also contributed finishing the event in 2:08.79. Caroline Crouse also posted a time of 2:09.97 to contribute points in the event. Kindal Culpepper (141.60), Canady (134.10) and Amelia Ward (131.75) each picked up points in the platform diving event. The quartet of Quisumbing, Hefner, Cocconcelli and Marcotti picked up points on both teams in the 4x100 free relay in 3:31.69, while Sciaudone, Bush, Adams and Ciancimino earned points against Campbell in 3:38.38.

The Bulldogs (4-3) return to the water Feb. 19-22 for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships. The championships will take place at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
