Late Goal Sees Women's Soccer Come Up Short Against Radford

10.11.2025 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer fell 1-0 to Radford in a close match at home on Saturday (Oct. 11).

The teams played a scoreless first half across both sides of the pitch. The Bulldogs had arguably their best chance of the match in the 23rd minute, when Karlee Benz took a shot from long distance on the far wing that glanced off the crossbar. In total in the first half, Radford outshot Asheville 7-4 while edging the Bulldogs 3-2 in corner kicks.

The first 15 minutes of the second half was battled out on the Bulldogs defensive side of the field, possession trading off quickly between teams as more pressure was applied from both sides. Play then opened up to the attacking side of the pitch, as the teams continued to trade runs in each other's halves. In the 77th minute Radford would finally break through for the match's only goal. After a flurry of activity outside the Asheville box, Katie Purnell would play a ball through a crowd that found the back of the net for her first goal of the season. The Bulldogs attempted to increase their offensive pressure in the remaining minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Asheville posted six shots in the match with two on goal, while edging Radford 5-4 in corner kicks. Georgia Duke and Benz each had two shots in the match, while Kathleen Doane and Abby Foulk each had one. Gracie Murray made four saves between the pipes.

The Bulldogs return to the pitch on Wednesday (Oct. 15) to host Gardner-Webb in a Big South Conference clash. Kickoff is at 6 p.m. on Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at https://uncabulldogs.com.
