Little Notches Career-High, Women's Soccer Drops Tight Road Affair at Furman

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Despite a career-high eight saves in Alison Little's second career start, UNC Asheville Women's Soccer dropped a tight 2-1 road affair at Furman Thursday night (Sept. 5).
The Bulldogs and Paladins spent the first 30 or so minutes feeling each other out offensively, before Ava Bjorkman-Tracy broke the scoreless tie off an assist from Nao Kawasaki in the 38th minute. The goal was the second of the season and second of Bjorkman-Tracy's career, while Kawasaki tallied her first assist of the season and the fifth of her career. Asheville would take its 1-0 lead to the half.
Furman wasted no time knotting things up in the second half with a goal in the 48th minute, before taking a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 52nd minute that would ultimately bring the match to its final score.
Asheville totaled eight shots in the match with four on goal, and also earned four corner kicks in the contest. Azalea Mihailovich and Reina Herndon each had two shots in the match, with Herndon notching a new career-high. Anna Doane, Manuela Schreier, Shae Hassig and Bjorkman-Tracy each also registered shots in the match for the Bulldogs. Little's total marks the most for a freshman Bulldog since Courtney O'Malley made 17 saves against VMI on Sept. 7, 2018.
The Bulldogs are back on the pitch on Sunday (Sept. 8) at Wake Forest in non-conference action. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m. from Winston-Salem, N.C., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
