Henry Patten '19 Plays into Round of 16 at US Open

FLUSHING, N.Y. - UNC Asheville Men's Tennis alum and Wimbledon Champion Henry Patten '19 was back on the major stage this past weekend, advancing to the Round of 16 at the US Open with doubles partner Harri Heliövaara of Finland.

The No. 6 seed in the tournament, Patten and Heliövaara began play on Aug. 28 with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Manuel Guidard and Sadio Doubmia of France. In the second round on Aug. 30, the pair dispatched the tandem of Dominic Stephan Stricker (Switzerland) and Flavio Cobolli (Italy) 6-0, 7-5. In the Round of 16, the duo faced off against No. 11 Nikola Mektic of Croatioa and Wesley Koolhof of The Netherlands falling 6-2, 6-2.
A 2019 graduate of UNC Asheville, Patten was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association ITA) All-American in doubles and a three-time Big South Conference Player of the Year. He was a four-time Big South Conference First Team All-Conference selection in singles play, and a three-time First Team All-Conference selection in doubles play. He was a seven-time Player of the Week selection, and a two-time Freshman of the Week selection. Patten also made an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division I national tournament for both singles and doubles. Patten was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2019. He and Olli Nolan also won an Oracle ITA Fall National Championship in 2018.
