Cross Country Releases 2024 Schedule

07.05.2024 | Cross Country

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Head coach Adam Puett announced on Friday the 2024 schedule for the UNC Asheville men's and women's cross country season.

"I feel like our schedule gives us a great opportunity to be competitive at the Big South Conference and Southeast Region, when racing fast matters the most," said Puett. "This schedule also allows our younger and less experienced athletes the ability to learn and grow with some of the races that we will be attending throughout the season."

Asheville begins its season in Boone, N.C., as the Bulldogs compete in the Covered Bridge Open, hosted by Appalachian State on Aug. 30. For their efforts in last year's Covered Bridge Open, Adam Hessler and Jonas Roach swept the Big South Men's Cross Country Weekly Awards. Hessler finished second out of 129 runners.

The Bulldogs will then compete in the Furman Invitational Sept. 14 in Greenville, S.C., before traveling down the road to Brevard College for the Brevard Invitational on Sept. 21. Asheville will be making its return to Louisville, Ky., for the Live in Lou Classic on Oct. 5. At last year's race in Louisville, Isabel Richardson recorded a fifth-place finish to lead the women's side.

Asheville will wrap up the regular season by returning to Appalachian State on Oct. 18.

This year's Big South Conference Championships will be held on Nov. 1 in Charleston, S.C. The NCAA Southeast Regionals will be hosted in Rock Hill, S.C. on Nov. 15, and the NCAA National Championships will be held in Madison, Wis. on Nov. 23.

Last season, the men's team had its highest conference finish since 2000, as the Bulldogs ran to a second place finish. Adam Hessler, Jan Malek and Daniel Hopkins all earned All-Conference honors for their efforts in the championship race and Adam Puett was named Coach of the Year, the program's first ever Coach of the Year award on the men's side. The men's team also earned its highest ranking in program history in the USTFCCCA Regional Rankings at No. 14.

The women's team earned a fourth place finish in the Big South Championship race with Isabel Richardson and Ella Moore leading the squad and earning All-Conference honors.
