Baseball Earns 2023-24 American Baseball Coaches Association Team Academic Excellence Award

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The UNC Asheville Baseball program has earned the American Baseball Coaches Association's 2023-24 Team Academic Excellence Award presented by Sports Attack, announced by the organization today (Wednesday, July 24). This marks two years in a row for the Bulldog Baseball program earning the award.Â

The award is given based on the following criteria:
Â
- Must be a high school or college team.
- Head coach must be a current ABCA member.
- Team must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 on a 4.0 scale during the 2023-24 academic year.
"I'm very proud of what our players are able to accomplish off the field," said head coach Scott Friedholm. "Receiving this award two years in a row, shows the commitment our players have to be successful in all areas of their career at UNC Asheville. We would like to give a special thank you to Rebecca Nelms for all her support of our team."

The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 15,000 members represent all 50 states and 41 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include nine divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School, Youth and Travel Baseball.
