Colby Guy Named Big South Conference Starting Pitcher of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Colby Guy has earned the UNC Asheville baseball team's first Big South Conference weekly award of the season. Guy was named the league's Starting Pitcher of the Week following his performance on Saturday, April 20. The conference office made the announcement on Tuesday.

Guy tossed 8.0 scoreless innings with 11 strikeouts and just three hits allowed to pick up the win for UNC Asheville on Saturday against Winthrop. He walked only one batter and allowed only five baserunners in total as the Bulldogs went on to pick up a 4-1 victory. The junior struck out the side swinging in the top of the first inning before striking out two batters apiece in the third, seventh and eighth innings. It was Guy's longest outing of the season while his 11 strikeouts were also a season high.

Guy's performance helped Asheville complete its first sweep over Winthrop since 1998 and the Bulldogs' first conference sweep of the season.

Asheville is back in action tonight (April 23) as the Bulldogs host Wofford at 5 p.m. at Greenwood Field.
