Jon Brann Reid Named Big South Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Asheville Men's Tennis Collects Six All-Conference Awards

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior Jon Brann Reid has been named the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Asheville Men's Tennis collected a total of six All-Conference awards, announced by the league today (Thursday, Apr. 18).

Freddy Murray and Sam Nicholson landed on the All-Conference First Team for singles play, while Rafa Serra and Reid were named All-Conference First Team for doubles play. Bruno Serra and Cian Ingles as well as the tandem of Nicholson and Murray each landed on the All-Conference Second Team for doubles play.

The third Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection in program history and the first since Charlie Morkel in 2021, Reid is a double major in biology and health and wellness promotion with a 4.00 grade point average. Reid also lands his second career spot on the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. He is a native of Hickory, N.C.

Murray posted a team-high 15 wins in singles play, including 12 wins at No. 1 and a perfect 4-0 in conference play. Murray also earned three Big South Conference Player of the Week awards this season. He and Nicholson also won nine doubles matches as a tandem, with six coming at No. 3 to go along with a perfect 3-0 mark in conference.  

These are the first two All-Conference honors for Murray. He is a native of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Nicholson went 12-5 on the season in singles play, including nine wins at No. 2 and a 3-1 mark in league play. He also was named Big South Conference Player of the Week on Feb. 14.

These are the second and third career All-Conference honors for Nicholson. The Brighton, England native is a management major with a minor in accounting.

Rafa Serra and Reid combined for an 11-4 mark in doubles play at No. 1, including 1-0 in conference and 1-0 against nationally-ranked opponents.

This is Reid's sixth career All-Conference honor, and Serra's second career All-Conference honor. Serra is a native of Burlington, N.C., and is a biology major with a double minor in neuroscience and Spanish.

Bruno Serra and Ingles combined for seven wins in doubles play, with five coming at No. 2 to go along with a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. Serra collected one Player of the Week honor on the season.

This is the first career All-Conference honor for both Serra and Ingles. Serra is a native of Burlington, N.C., and is a biology major with a double minor in neuroscience and Spanish. Ingles is a native of Perth, Australia.

The No. 2 seed Bulldogs (14-7, 3-1 Big South Conference) face No. 3 seed Presbyterian in the Big South Conference Championship semifinals on Saturday (Apr. 20). First serve is set for 12:00 p.m. from Marion Diehl Park in Charlotte, N.C., with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
