KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The second day of the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships was highlighted by a podium finish and several broken records for UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving on Thursday (Feb. 22) at the Allan Jones Intercollegiate Aquatic Center.

Asheville still sits in fourth after the second day but was able to close the gap on third-place Florida Gulf Coast. On the day, Asheville notched 13 lifetime-bests, nine season-bests, five school records and three freshman records.

The quartet of Abby Parks, Caroline Crouse, Olivia Ciancimino and Anna Marcotti started off the finals with a bronze medal finish in the 200 free relay in 1:32.22, before Chloe McDonald set a pair of 100 fly school records across the prelims and finals. McDonald first set the record in the prelims with a lifetime-best 55.12, before edging that performance with a 55.07 in the finals for a sixth-place finish. Taylor Smith also finished eighth in the 100 fly with a time of 56.50. Alessia Cunegatti also set a pair of school and freshman records through the 400 IM prelims and finals, notching a lifetime-best 4:22.64 in the prelims before re-breaking the record with a 4:20.06 in the finals for a fourth-place finish. Riley Edmundson finished fifth in the 400 IM with a lifetime-best time of 4:20.59, after logging a season-best 4:23.18 in the prelims. Anna Kate Halligan logged a ninth-place finish in the 400 IM with a lifetime-best 4:25.77, after setting a lifetime-best in the prelims with a time of 4:26.67. Julie Lahiff logged a season-best time in the 400 IM each in the prelims and B finals, swimming a 4:30.99 in the prelims before finishing 12th in 4:28.83. Tess Peny also logged a pair of season-bests in the 400 IM across the prelims and B finals, swimming the prelims in 4:34.63 and finishing 15th in 4:31.52. Crouse finished fifth in the 200 free in 1:48.35, while Marcotti finished 10th in 1:50.97 after a season-best 1:50.21 in the prelims. Caitlin Hefner finished 13th in 1:52.20 after a season-best 1:52.03 in the prelims, while Ava Kilpatrick finished 14th in 1:52.46 after a lifetime-best 1:51.86 in the prelims. Danai Gkogkosi also swam the prelims in 1:55.07.

Morgan Coughlen finished fourth in the 1M diving event with a season-best 242.25, while Jade Canady also finished seventh with a score of 230.20. Amelia Ward finished 10th in the event with a lifetime-best 238.80, marking a new freshman record for the program. The 400 medley relay team of Grace Adams, Beatrice Cocconcelli, McDonald and Parks finished fourth in 3:44.37, with Adams recording a lifetime-best split of 55.64 and Parks marking the fastest split in program history at 49.11.

Sammy Kershner logged a season-best 57.06 in the prelims of the 100 fly, while Addison Wright swam the event in 58.99 and Alexis Walker notched a time of 1:01.24. Rose Sciaudone notched a time of 4:37.16 in the prelims of the 400 IM, while Gkogkosi posted a time of 1:55.07 in the 200 free prelims. In the time trials of the 100 free, Amelia Presley (53.13) and Miriam Wheatley (53.47) each logged lifetime-bests in the event. Beatrice Cocconcelli also posted a school record and a lifetime-best in the time trial of the 100 IM in 58.10.

"This team continues to race and compete," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "They did an excellent job in the pool and on the boards this morning to set us up for the awesome night we just had! Huge shoutouts go out to new school & freshmen records on 1M, in 400 IM and 100 butterfly!"

The Bulldogs return to action tomorrow (Friday, Feb. 23) for day three of championship action. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m., with video available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
