Sam Nicholson Named Big South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville sophomore Sam Nicholson has been named the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Feb. 14).
Nicholson went 4-0 on the week to help Asheville extend its winning streak to six, the program's longest since the 2019 season. The Bulldogs beat Wofford 4-2 on Thursday (Feb. 8), before winning over East Tennessee State 4-1 on Friday (Feb. 9). In the victory over Wofford, Nicholson teamed up with Freddy Murray for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles before winning 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles. Against ETSU, Nicholson and Murray won 6-3 at No. 2 doubles before Nicholson posted a 7-5, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles.
This is Nicholson's first career Player of the Week honor. The Brighton, England native is a management major with a minor in accounting.
The Bulldogs (6-1) look to continue their winning ways on Saturday (Feb. 17) against North Greenville. First serve is set for 4:30 p.m. from the Asheville Racquet Club Downtown.
