Dakota McCaughan Named Big South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville senior guard Dakota McCaughan has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league today (Monday, Dec. 2).
 
In a 75-56 loss at Wofford on Tuesday (Nov. 26), McCaughan posted 13 points on 5-14 shooting including three triples, along with three rebounds, a team-high five assists and two steals. McCaughan went on to post a career-day in a 92-87 overtime setback at Tennessee State, scoring a game and career-high 29 points on a career-high nine three-pointers. McCaughan finished 9-21 from the field including 9-16 from beyond the arc, notching new career-highs in field goal attempts and three-point attempts. McCaughan also finished the game with a career-high seven assists to pace the Bulldogs. Her nine long balls matched Jessica Wall's mark against Furman on Mar. 15, 2018. It was the first game with at least 25 points for a Bulldog since Mallory Bruce's 28-point effort against Gardner-Webb on Jan. 31, 2024 last season. McCaughan 9-21 from the field including 9-16 from beyond the arc, notching new career-highs in field goal attempts and three-point attempts while her 29 points are the most scored by an individual in a Big South Conference Women's Basketball game so far this season.
 
This is McCaughan's first career Player of the Week honor. The Secane, Pa. native is a sociology major.
