CHARLOTTE, N.C. -Â After helping the UNC Asheville men's basketball team to two wins this past week, freshman Kameron Taylor has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week. The league made the announcement on Monday (Dec. 16).Â
Taylor is the first freshman for Asheville to earn Big South Freshman of the Week honors since Coty Jude earned the honor on Feb. 4, 2019.Â
The freshman from Charlotte averaged 13.5 points this past week, after scoring 14 against Bluefield on Wednesday (Dec. 11) and 13 against Western Carolina on Saturday (Dec. 14). Asheville's 78-61 victory over Western this past Saturday was the largest margin of victory for the Bulldogs over the Catamounts since Dec. 4, 2000, where the Bulldogs won 79-59.Â
On the week, Taylor shot 10-18 from the field (.556), 7-9 from the free throw line (a perfect 5-5 against WCU), had nine rebounds, five assists, three steals, and a block.Â
So far this season, Taylor is averaging 7.7 points and 4.5 rebounds and shooting .468 from the field.Â
Taylor and the rest of the Bulldogs will return to action tomorrow, Tuesday, Dec. 17, as Asheville faces North Florida at 6:30 p.m. following the women's game at 4:30 p.m. in Kimmel Arena.Â
