One Freshman Record Falls as Women's Swimming and Diving Completes Day Three of Fall Frenzy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - One freshman record fell on Saturday (Nov. 23) as UNC Asheville Women's Swimming and Diving completed day three of the Fall Frenzy at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
 
Andie Quisumbing posted a freshman record and a fourth-place finish in the 100 fly in a season-best 55.17, while Riley Edmundson posted an 11th-place finish in a lifetime-best 55.88 seconds. Chloe McDonald finished 19th in a season-best 56.24 seconds, while Caroline Crouse finished 24th in 57.52 seconds. Alessia Cunegatti posted a seventh-place finish in the 400 IM in a season-best 4:27.90, while Edmudson finished just behind her in 4:29.84. Julie Lahiff finished 11th in the event in a season-best 4:27.90, while Anna Kate Halligan finished 17th in a season-best 4:26.25. Rose Sciaudone (4:35.24), Savanna Bush (4:44.55) and Tess Peny (4:38.34) also swam the event, with Peny notching a season-best time. Anna Marcotti finished sixth in the 200 free in a season-best 1:51.19, while Caitlin Hefner finished 12th in 1:52.24 and Ava Kilpatrick swam the event in 1:55.60. Alyssa Jackson paced the Bulldogs in the 100 breast with an 11th-place finish in a lifetime-best 1:03.18, while Beatrice Cocconcelli took 20th in 1:04.59 and Gracelyn Cox finished 22nd in 1:05.51. Grace Adams finished 13th in the 100 back in 57.36 seconds while Quisumbing took 14th in 57.39 seconds. Taylor Smith swam the 100 fly time trial in a season-best 56.67 seconds, while the 200 medley relay team took 13th in the event. Paced by a season-best 26.83 split from Savanna Bush, Cocconcelli followed with a 28.92 split before Smith finished her split in 25.54 and Kilpatrick swam her split in 24.43 seconds. In the finals Asheville totaled nine season-best times, two lifetime-best times and one freshman record.
 
The Bulldogs were paced in the 100 fly prelims by Quisumbing, who qualified for the A finals in third place with a season-best time of 55.53 seconds. Edmundson qualified for the B finals with a 15th-place finish in a season-best 56.58 seconds. McDonald and Crouse each qualified for the C final in the event with season-best marks, with McDonald finishing 19th in 56.75 seconds and Crouse finishing 22nd in 57.18 seconds. Edmundson and Cunegatti each qualified for the A finals in the 400 IM with season-best times, with Edmundson taking fifth in 4:26.24 and Cunegatti finishing eighth in 4:27.99. Lahiff took 15th in a season-best 4:31.82 to qualify for the B final, while Halligan (4:33.58, 19th) and Sciaudone (4:34.62, 21st) each qualified for the C final with season-best times. Peny qualified for the D final in the event with a season-best time of 4:40.20, while Bush also qualified for the D final with a lifetime-best time of 4:40.23. Kathryn Walters also swam a season-best 4:45.21 in the event. Marcotti (1:51.39, ninth) and Hefner (1:52.05, 11th) each qualified for the B final of the 200 free with season-best marks, while Kilpatrick earned a spot in the D final with a season-best 1:54.54. Celine Petruschke (1:57.17) and Danai Gkogkosi (1:57.26) each also swam season-best marks in the event. Jackson qualified for the B final in the 100 breast with a season-best time of 1:03.41, while Cocconcelli (1:04.48) and Cox (1:05.32) each earned spots in the C final with season-best times. Taylor Smith (1:06.78), Miriam Wheatley (1:07.00), Anna Kate Halligan (1:07.02) and Olivia Ciancimino (1:09.54) each recorded season-best times in the event. Adams (56.75) and Quisumbing (56.87) each qualified for the B final in the 100 back with season-best marks, while Bush also swam the event in 59.02 and Cox recorded a season-best time of 1:00.05 in the event. Asheville totaled 26 season-best times and one lifetime-best time in the prelims.
 
"It was a really good day of racing!" said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "There was lots of support from each other and 20+ finals swims. We've got two more sessions and we 're keeping our foot on the gas."
