HIGH POINT, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team's season ended on Friday (Nov. 22), as the Bulldogs lost to Radford in three sets in the Big South Conference Championship Tournament.
Set One (20-25) – Radford looked to snap its season's 2-game losing streak against the Bulldogs early, as the Highlanders opened up the match with a 3-0 lead. The Bulldogs quickly responded by scoring the following four points, with two coming from back-to-back aces from Ana Djurovic. The Highlanders went on to retake the lead 6-5 before a kill from Avery Loeback evened the score. This would be the last tie of the set as Radford answered with a 3-0 run and held the lead for the rest of the set.
Set Two (14-25) – In the second frame, the Highlanders carried their momentum from the opening set as Radford quickly jumped ahead 7-3 and never looked back. Radford led the entire set and extended its lead out to double-figures with the final two points of the set.
Set Three (23-25) – Asheville looked to avoid the season-ending sweep, as the Bulldogs took an early 7-4 lead. The Bulldogs led most of the set and were poised to send the match into a fourth set, as they led 22-19 following a kill from Kimberly Czepukaitis. Radford spoiled Asheville's lead by closing the game on a 6-1 run to win the third set 25-23 and earn the match sweep.
In the Box – Kylie Cackovic led Asheville with nine kills and two service aces alongside Djurovic. Loeback had eight kills and a .211 hitting percentage. The Bulldogs combined for 10 block assists, and Lydia Pate had four of those, along with the team's lone solo block. Payton Rolfsen had 21 assists and Michelle Thao had 14 digs.
