Diving Wraps Up Tennessee Invitational, Swimming Competes at Fall Frenzy on Friday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville's divers wrapped up the Tennessee Invitational from Knoxville, while the swimmers continued competition at the Queens Fall Frenzy in Charlotte on Friday (Nov. 22).

The A squad in the 200 free relay finished 11th in 1:35.38, with a season-best 23.74 split from Caroline Crouse, a 23.84 split from Anna Marcotti, a 23.41 split from Beatrice Cocconcelli and a 24.39 split from Olivia Ciancimino. The B squad took 17th in 1:36.75, led by a season-best split from Andie Quisumbing along with Alyssa Jackson, Taylor Smith and Ava Kilpatrick. Caitlin Henfner finished 11th in the 500 free finals with a season-best 4:59.24, while Danai Gkogkosi posted a lifetime-best time of 5:06.35 and Kathryn Walters finished the event in 5:13.58. Cocconcelli took 11th in the finals of the 200 IM with a season-best time of 2:04.29, while Riley Edmundson posted a 13th-place finish in a season-best time of 2:04.41. Anna Kate Halligan swam a lifetime-best 2:06.84 in the event, while Alessia Cunegatti posted a season-best 2:05.61 in the 200 IM time trial. Marcotti finished 23rd in the 50 free finals with a time of 24.08 seconds, while two squads competed in the 400 medley relay for Asheville. The A squad of Grace Adams, Jackson, Chloe McDonald and Crouse finished 11th in 3:48.91 led by a season-best 56.75 split from Adams, while the B team of Savanna Bush, Gracelyn Cox, Quisumbing and Ciancimino finished 14th in 3:50.02 paced by a season-best split of 57.72 from Bush. Altogether in the finals, Asheville posted two lifetime-best times and another eight season-bests. Â

Hefner finished 10th in the prelims of the 500 freestyle in a season-best time of 4:59.61 to qualify for the B final, while Gkogkosi swam a lifetime-best 5:08.79 to qualify for the D final. Walters (5:09.53) qualified for the D final with a season-best while Rose Sciaudone swam a season-best 5:11.82 in the event. Celine Petruschke swam a season-best 5:12.51, and Caroline Crouse (5:13.23) also swam a season-best the event. Edmundson finished 13th in the 200 IM prelims in a season-best 2:05.62 to qualify for the B final, while Cocconcelli finished 15th in a season-best 2:05.72 to also qualify for the B final. Halligan swam a season-best 2:08.55 to qualify for the D final, while Julie Lahiff (2:09.23, season-best), Sciaudone (2:09.63, season-best) Gracelyn Cox (2:10.45, season-best), Bush (2:10.69, season-best) and Tess Peny (2:11.91, season-best) also swam the event. Marcotti took 17th in the prelims of the 50 free in a season-best 23.75 seconds to qualify for the C final, while Ciancimino swam the event in a season-best 24.23 seconds and Quisumbing finished in a season-best 24.26 seconds. Jackson swam the event in a season-best 24.53 seconds, while Smith finished in a season-best 24.58 seconds. Kilpatrick (24.80 seconds, season-best), McDonald (24.82 seconds, season-best) and Miriam Wheatley (25.29 seconds, season-best) also swam the event. In total, Asheville had four swimmers qualify for finals and also posted one lifetime-best time and 21 season-best times in the prelim heats.

"I am really proud of our determination this evening at finals," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "The team is showing a lot of grit and definitely practicing race strategies as well as making improvements each session. We look forward to continuing to improve over the next two days/4 sessions."
"I am so incredibly proud of this team for the hard work we've put in the past couple months, despite the extenuating circumstances," said sophomore Anna Kate Halligan. "Today was a great start to the meet! It was so exciting to go out there and cheer, race fast, and have fun!"

In platform diving, Kindal Culpepper finished 12th with a mark of 148.05 and Amelia Ward turned in a score of 115.75.

"We had a great meet at UT this week," said diving coach Matthew Macon. "Our divers were excited to get on the boards and dove well against some amazing divers and teams. We only get to compete platform a few times a year, so it was fun to finish the meet on tower and see two of our divers compete today."

The Fall Frenzy continues for Bulldog swimming tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 23), with video and tickets available at www.uncabulldogs.com. The divers are back in action Dec. 13 at the Georgia Southern tri-meet with East Carolina.
