RALEIGH, N.C. - UNC Asheville sixth year forward Briauna Thompson has been named a recipient of the inaugural Kay Yow Servant Leader Award, announced by the organization recently.
"Briauna exemplifies resilience and quiet leadership in everything she does," said Asheville head coach Tynesha Lewis, who played for Kay Yow at North Carolina State. "She has faced challenges with strength and determination, inspiring her teammates and coaches alike. It has truly been a privilege to coach someone with her dedication and character. Briauna receiving the Kay Yow Service Award is a testament to her unwavering commitment to others and to the values of the game."
Through presenting this award, the Kay Yow Foundation aims to recognize student-athletes who embody servant leadership. Annual award winners exemplify Coach Yow's spirit and are also servants at heart.
In receiving this honor, Thompson will wear a special patch on her jersey this season.
"As a Christian and student-athlete, I am honored to receive such a prestigious award," said Thompson. "Thank you to my coaches and the Kay Yow Foundation for acknowledging me and other student athletes for our dedication, leadership and hard work."
"We are honored to have Briauna Thompson as one of the inaugural winners of this prestigious award," said Director of Athletics Janet R. Cone. "Briauna exemplifies everything you want in a student-athlete who is also a servant leader, and we are proud to have her as a Bulldog!"
