McKinley Brooks-Sumpter Named Big South Conference Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week

FULL BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville redshirt senior guard McKinley Brooks-Sumpter has been named to Big South Conference Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week along with Presbyterian's Bryanna Brady, announced by the league today (Tuesday, Jan. 2). Following teammate LaImani Simmons's Player of the Week honor last week, it is the first time since the 2016-17 season that Asheville has earned Player of the Week honors in back-to-back weeks. Those honors were won by KJ Weaver (Nov. 14, 2016) and Tianna Knuckles (Nov. 21, 2016) respectively.
Brooks-Sumpter helped Asheville close out non-conference play and the 2023 calendar with a 72-34 win against Brevard back on Dec. 29, registering her second double-double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 12 rebounds to go along with two assists and one block.
This is Brooks-Sumpter's second career Player of the Week honor. The Columbia, S.C. native is a psychology major.
The Bulldogs start Big South Conference play tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 3) at USC Upstate in the latest installment of the Ingles I-26 Rivalry. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. from Spartanburg, S.C., with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
