Hessler, Roach Sweep Big South XC Men’s Weekly Awards

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Following their performance at the Covered Bridge Open last Friday, the UNC Asheville men's cross country team swept this week's Big South Men's Cross Country weekly honors as announced by the league on Wednesday (Sept. 20). Junior Adam Hessler was named the Big South Men's Runner of the Week, while freshman Jonas Roach was named the Big South Men's Freshman of the Week.
Hessler finished second out of 129 runners at last Friday's meet. He recorded a personal-best time of 24:20.84 in the 8K. It was the second-fastest 8K time in program history, and he led the Bulldogs to a third-place finish. This is Hessler's second weekly award of his career, earning his first weekly honor last season (Oct. 19, 2022).
Roach finished 44th with an 8K time of 26:00.04 at the Covered Bridge Open. He was Asheville's sixth-best runner at the meet and helped the Bulldogs finish with 86 team points. This is Roach's second weekly award of the season.
The Bulldogs will compete again on September 30 when they travel to Louisville, Ky., to compete in the Live in Lou Classic.
