U.S. Open Run Continues for Henry Patten '19

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - A run at the 2023 U.S. Open will continue for UNC Asheville men's tennis alum Henry Patten '19, after wins in the first and second rounds in the tournament recently. Â
Back on Wednesday (Aug. 30), Patten and doubles partner Julian Cash took down Americans William Blumberg and Steve Johnson 7-5, 6-1 in the first round. Yesterday, Patten and Cash won again as they defeated Gregoire Barrere (United Kingdom) and Quentin Halys (France) 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. Patten and Cash advance to the Round of 16 tomorrow (Sept. 3) where they will take on the sixth-ranked doubles team in the world in Matthew Ebden (Australia) and Rohan Bopanna (India).
A 2019 graduate of UNC Asheville, Patten was an Intercollegiate Tennis Association ITA) All-American in doubles and a three-time Big South Conference Player of the Year. He was a four-time Big South Conference First Team All-Conference selection in singles play, and a three-time First Team All-Conference selection in doubles play. He was a seven-time Player of the Week selection, and a two-time Freshman of the Week selection. Patten also made an appearance in the 2019 NCAA Division I national tournament for both singles and doubles. Patten was also an ITA Scholar-Athlete in 2019.
