Men's Soccer Plays to First Draw of the Season at Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - UNC Asheville Men's Soccer played to its first draw of the 2023 season in a 1-1 match at Wofford Tuesday night (Sept. 12).
The teams played a scoreless first half, but it wasn't without offensive chances for both teams. In the first two minutes of play, a Bulldog handball inside the box set Nikolai Rojel with a penalty kick which he rang off the post. In total, each team totaled four shots in the half with two on goal.
Asheville would strike quickly in the second half, getting the first goal in the first four minutes of the half. After a touch-and-go play with Aysa Hamid sent Viðar Ragnarsson down the far wing, he played it across and found Stewart Patnaud at the top of the box, who scored his first career goal to put Asheville ahead 1-0 on a rocket to the left corner. Ragnarsson recorded his first career assist on the play.
Wofford would keep applying pressure offensively, before netting the equalizer in the 67th minute. Jakob Andersson played a corner kick in that found the foot of Magnus Kjoller, who scored to tie the match 1-1. From that point, both teams held strong defensively while creating offensive chances, as the match ended in a draw.
Asheville totaled nine shots in the match, with five of them on target. The Bulldogs also totaled six corner kicks in the contest. Myles Edmondson matched his career-high with two shots in the match, while Patnaud also had two. Brendan Herb, Seth Hammond, Conor Behan, Aidan Whitlock and Edvin Grolimund also recorded shots for Asheville in the match. Charlie Farrar (3-2-1) made three saves between the pipes in the match.
The Bulldogs (3-2-1) are back at home on Saturday (Sept. 16) to host VMI for Mental Health Awareness Day. Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. from Greenwood Field, with video and live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com. Â
