Albertine van der Goot Named Big South Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville volleyball player Albertine van der Goot has been named the Big South Freshman of the Week. It marks the first weekly award for the Bulldog volleyball team since the spring season of 2021 and van der Goot is the first Freshman of the Week honoree for the program since 2018.Â
Van der Goot had a stellar beginning to her college career last weekend. In four matches played, van der Goot totaled 35 kills, 27 assists, seven digs, three aces and played a part in 15 blocks (two solo, 13 assists). Her top outing of the weekend came in the five-set win over North Carolina Central on Saturday, where she tallied 12 kills, 14 assists, five digs, and six block assists. She scored at least 11 points in two of the four matches. Thanks to the play of van der Goot and the rest of the Bulldogs, Asheville is off to its best four-match start to a season (3-1) since 2013.Â
Van der Goot and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action on Wednesday when they visit Furman in non-conference action. The first serve between the Bulldogs and Paladins is set for 7 p.m.Â
