ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Zach Rothenberg has been announced as the new Director of Operations for UNC Asheville Women's Basketball, announced today (Thursday, June 1) by Head Coach Honey Brown.

"We are excited to have Zach join our staff," said Coach Brown. "He's had great experiences working for Illinois and SMU women's basketball programs doing a long list of duties that will carry over to position here. His ability to adapt and his work ethic along with his passion for basketball is something that stood out to me. Zach will help our staff and players be better on and off the court and get on the road recruiting to help find future Bulldogs."

Rothenberg comes to Asheville after serving as a graduate assistant, and eventually taking on the Director of Operations role with the women's basketball program at Southern Methodist University in Fort Worth, Texas.

Prior to his time at SMU, he was a four-year student manager for the University of Illinois women's basketball program including serving his last two seasons as the head student manager. In this role, he assisted in all facets of the Big Ten women's basketball program. Along with his role with the women's basketball program, he was named a James Scholar along with making the Dean's List all seven of his semesters at Illinois.

"I am incredibly excited about joining the UNC Asheville family!" said Rothenberg. "I want to thank Coach Brown for this amazing opportunity and Dee, Ivey and Brittany for being so welcoming as I make the transition to Asheville. It is an honor to join this amazing staff, the university, and the Asheville community. I'm excited to get to work!"

A native of Deerfield, Ill., Rothenberg holds a Master of Science in Sport Management from SMU, which he completed in May. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Recreation, Sport and Tourism with a concentration in Sport Management and a minor in Business from Illinois (2022).
