Three Bulldogs Earn College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Honors

GREENWOOD, Ind. - UNC Asheville junior men's tennis player Jon Brann Reid and seniors Bruno Serra and Rafa Serra have all earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors, announced by the organization today (Tuesday, May 9).

To receive Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must be at least a sophomore both athletically and academically, have been at their institution for at least one calendar year if a transfer, played in at least 50 percent of their team's contests and maintain at least a cumulative 3.50 grade point average.

Reid posted six wins in singles play this year, with five of them coming at No. 1 and two of them in conference play. Reid and Rafa Serra also went 8-5 at No. 1 doubles on their way to Second Team All-Conference honors in doubles play. Reid also posted one win in doubles play with Harry Thursfield. His 4.0 grade point average in biology/health and wellness promotion landed him on the Big South Conference All-Academic Team. For his career, Reid has been named an All-Conference selection five times while also being named Player of the Week once.

This is Reid's first career Academic All-District selection. He is a native of Hickory, N.C.

Bruno Serra picked up seven wins in doubles play, picking up one win paired with his brother Rafa at No. 2, along with four other wins with Harry Thursfield at No. 2. He also won two matches at No. 3 doubles paired with Chester Wickwire. In total, he picked up seven singles wins, including three in conference. Serra went 1-0 at No. 3, won two matches at No. 4 and went 4-3 at No. 5. 

This is Serra's first career Academic All-District selection. He is a native of Burlington, N.C. and is a biology major with a 3.98 grade point average.

Rafa Serra won nine doubles matches on the year, winning one match teamed up with his brother Bruno and eight matches at No. 1 teamed up with Jon Brann Reid. Serra won four singles matches on the season, picking up two wins each at No. 5 and No. 6. He went on to earn Second Team All-Conference Doubles honors with Jon Brann Reid. 

This is Serra's first career Academic All-District selection. He is a native of Burlington, N.C. and is a biology major along with minors in neuroscience and Spanish with a 3.98 grade point average.
