McDonald and Prieto Prepare for NCAA East Prelims

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville track and field student-athletes Solomon McDonald and Claudia Prieto will begin their journey through the NCAA East prelims on Wednesday (May 24) starting with McDonald competing in the shot put at 6:00 p.m. and Prieto competing on Thursday (May 25) in the long jump at 6:00 p.m.

McDonald will compete in the third flight, holding a shot put mark of 18.46 meters, an Asheville school record he set earlier this season at the Georgia Tech Invitational where he took first place. He will compete in his flight against student-athletes from Florida, Georgia, Ohio State and other Power Five schools.

Prieto will compete in the second flight, holding a long jump mark of 6.23 meters, an Asheville school record set in her final jump of the season at Diesel's Last Chance Meet earlier this month. She will jump in her flight against competition from Mississippi State, Princeton, Dartmouth, Maryland, and a handful of other universities.

To advance to the NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, McDonald and Prieto will both need to finish in the top 12 of their respective events.
