05.01.2023 | Women's Basketball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball has named Brittany Bigott as its new Assistant Coach, announced today (Monday, May 1) by Head Coach Honey Brown.

"Brittany has tremendous energy and work ethic," said Coach Brown. "She has passion for recruiting, which I placed a huge emphasis on while looking for someone in this position. She will also work with guard development. I know Brittany loves the game. She played college basketball and has been around it her whole life while her dad coached and siblings both play as well. I am excited to have her get to Asheville and get started."

Bigott comes to Asheville after three years on staff at Sam Houston State, where she served as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator. In her first season, Sam Houston State finished third in the Southland Conference in the regular season. In 2021-22, the Bearkats advanced to the third round of the Western Athletic Conference tournament after winning 15 games in the regular season. At Sam Houston State she coached two All-WAC First Team selections, two All-WAC Second Team selections and one All-WAC Defensive Team honoree.

Prior to Sam Houston State, Bigott spent two years on staff at McNeese State as an Assistant Coach. At McNeese, she coached one Southland Conference All-Academic Team selection and one All-Conference selection.

Before breaking into the Division I ranks, Bigott served as a Graduate Assistant at Division II Wayne State and also was both a Head Coach (2015-16) and Assistant Coach (2013-17) at Big Basketball Academy. At Wayne State, she coached the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Player of the Year, one All-Region selection, two All-Conference First Team selections and one All-Freshman Team selection.

"I am very excited about joining the Bulldog family!" said Bigott. "The opportunity to work with such a great staff and athletic program makes me excited for seasons to come. I look forward to assisting Coach Brown with bringing in some great recruiting classes as well as making a splash in the Big South. I want to thank Honey, Ivey, and Dee for welcoming me into the family and making my transition to North Carolina a great one! Blessed to be a Bulldog!"

Bigott appeared in 87 career games and was a NAIA Scholar-Athlete all four years at St. Thomas Houston. She led the team in three-point field goal percentage as both a freshman and sophomore, and was a four-time Academic All-Conference pick as well as UST's Scholar Athlete of the Year her freshman and junior seasons.

Bigott graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Thomas Houston with a Bachelor of Business Administration (2017), while earning a Master's of Science in Organizational Management from Wayne State in 2019. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in Kinesiology from Sam Houston State.
