Bulldogs Complete Day One of Catamount Classic

CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville track and field team wrapped up the first day of the Catamount Classic on Friday (Apr. 14) at Western Carolina University. The Bulldogs tallied several season best and personal best performances throughout rainy weather conditions, including a first place winner, two second place finishes and a third place finish.
Despite intermittent rainfall, Claudia Prieto took home the top prize in the women's long jump with a distance of 5.86 meters. With the top-three finish, Prieto extended her podium streak further, now placing top-three in every meet she has participated in since Mar. 19, 2022.
Brianna Moore continued her podium streak as well, placing second in the women's javelin competition. Throwing 41.22 meters, Moore has now placed in the top three for the javelin for three meets in a row.
Jalen Anderson has successful day in both sprint competitions, placing third in the 200-meter dash (21.77)Â and placing third in the qualifying round for the 100-meter dash. Running a 10.62, Anderson will compete in tomorrow's 100-meter finals with the other top-eight competitors.
Finally, Madeline Wittschen took second in the women's 5000-meter run with a time of 18:01.15, cruising past her season and personal bests. Wittschen beat her best time by 30 seconds, her previous being 18:31.15 which she set last month at the 49er Classic.
Asheville will be back in action on Saturday (Apr. 15) to wrap up the Catamount Classic with competition beginning at noon. Live results can be found HERE.
