Last Time Out -Â The Bulldogs last competed at the VertKlasse Meeting on March 31st and April 1st. Asheville produced multiple podium placements and record book finishes in the two-day competition, with five Bulldogs and the 4x400 men's relay team finishing on the podium for their respective events.
Seniors Stepping Up - Seniors Claudia Prieto and Solomon McDonald continued their incredible final seasons as Bulldogs at VertKlasse, with each taking home personal bests and podium finishes. Preito, who has not missed a top-three finish in over a year, took third place in the triple jump and second place in the long jump at VertKlasse. Her triple jump distance of 12.31-meters would have broken her own school record if not for wind conditions and her season-best 6.00-meter long jump was only .06 meters off her long jump school record.
McDonald took first place in the men's shot put with a 17.56-meter throw, winning his sixth shot put event of the track and field season. Out of the nine meets the Bulldogs have competed in the indoor and outdoor seasons, McDonald has won a throwing event at seven, and placed outside of the top-two at only the Raleigh Relays.
Top-Five Finishes and Personal Bests - A number of Bulldogs have been having outstanding performances as the outdoor season rounds out. In back-to-back weekends, Brianna Moore beat her personal-best javelin throws, winning the event at Montreat and taking third at VertKlasse with a 42.34-meter throw that ranked second all-time in program history. Brock Newsome also earned a personal-best at VertKlasse, taking sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:52.67 and marking the fifth fastest time in this event for a Bulldog. The men's 4x400 relay team of Anthony Mason, Christopher Owens, Zac Weas, and Bryson Riddick nabbed a podium spot and the fifth fastest relay time in program history running a 3:18.01.
About the Catamount Classic - On last year's trip to Cullowhee, the Bulldogs had an outstanding weekend, breaking three outdoor program records, earning five first-place medals, garnering 11 podium finishes, and tallied several season and personal-bests across nearly every event contested on the day.
