Delaney Carlton was named the CCSA Swimmer of the Year, while Nora Segurola was tabbed the CCSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Carlton is the first Bulldog to ever be named the Conference's Swimmer of the Year, while Segurola is the fourth student-athlete from Asheville to be selected as the League's Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Carlton, who was the CCSA Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2021-22, became UNC Asheville's first qualifier to the NCAA Championships in 2022-23. She qualified in both the 50 freestyle (22.07) and 100 freestyle (49.43). At the Championships, Carlton placed 31st in the nation in the 50 free.
"Delaney's accomplishments have been building these past four seasons and culminated to her most successful season ever in the pool this year," said UNC Asheville Head Coach Elizabeth Lykins. "Being the first UNC Asheville swimmer to qualify for NCAA's and the lone CCSA representative for the year is beyond thrilling! Our excitement for Delaney is only enhanced with the recognition of this award amongst our conference coaches."
Carlton, the 2023 CCSA 50 Freestyle Champion, earned the CCSA Swimmer of the Week twice in 2022-23. She was dominant in dual meets as she won the 50 freestyle during the dual meet portion of the schedule.
