03.16.2023 | Women's Swimming & Diving

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - UNC Asheville senior Delaney Carlton competed at the NCAA Division I Championships on Thursday (Mar. 16), winning her heat and finishing above her original seeding in the 50-yard freestyle.

Carlton captured a victory in her first heat at the NCAA Championships in the 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 22.30 in a heat that featured plenty of Power Five competition. Overall, she notched a 31st-place finish in the event finishing above where she was originally seeded in the 50-yard freestyle with her second-fastest career time in the event.

"What an experience!" said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "It's amazing to be represented on the national stage. Delaney swam her second-fastest swim ever and moved up to finish in 31st. Our staff is extremely proud of Delaney's accomplishments both in and out of the pool. We look forward to watching her represent the Bulldogs on Saturday in the 100 freestyle."

Carlton returns to the pool on Saturday (Mar. 18) to race in the 100-yard freestyle. Video (ESPN+) and live results will be available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
