Last Time Out: The Bulldogs posted a strong showing among a crowded field of competition at the VMI Winter Classic two weeks ago, with Claudia Prieto and Solomon McDonald continuing to dominate their respective events, taking home first place finishes in the women's triple jump, women's long jump and men's shot put. Asheville made the podium four other times at the competition in the 1 mile race, 60 meter hurdles, 4x400 relay and the distance medley relay.

Seniors stepping up: The veteran Bulldogs on the track and field team are leading the way this indoor season, led by Prieto and McDonald, who have not missed the podium this season in the women's triple jump and the men's shot put. Prieto, a fifth year senior, has not placed lower than second place in the women's triple jump this season while breaking her own record in this event at the John Weaver Invitational with a distance of 12.45 meters. Also a fifth year senior, Mcdonald has won the men's shot put two times this season while finishing second in his other attempt.

Senior distance runner Alex Haines has also had an impressive string of finishes to this indoor season winning the 800 meter run at the John Weaver invitational and having back-to-back podium finishes in the mile run in his last two meets. In each of those meets, Haines set a new personal best time and the second best time in program history (4:14.52), with a third place finish at VMI and a first place finish in Columbia.

Sprinting Stars: Another Bulldog coming into the Bulldog Open on a hot stretch is Zac Weas, who has not missed the podium this season in the 60 meter hurdles. Weas tied the second best time in program history for the 60 meter hurdles at VMI with a time of 8:13, finishing in second place.

The men's relay team of Anthony Mason, Bryson Riddick, Isaac Teasley and Jalen Anderson placed second in the 4x400 at VMI (3:17.59) nearly breaking their own second place record they set earlier this year. The sprinting team also won the 4x300 earlier in the season, setting another top-five finish in program history.

Other teams competing: UNC Asheville will be joined by fellow Big South competitors from Gardner-Webb, Radford, and Presbyterian, along with seven other Division I schools and numerous other Division II and III schools, with 30 schools total competing.
