BIG SOUTH CONFERENCE RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – UNC Asheville senior guard Josh Banks has been named the Big South Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, announced by the league on Wednesday (Dec. 27).

Banks helped lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 week, averaging 21 a game. Banks led the team on Monday (Dec. 18) to a 79-75 victory over South Carolina State. He had a team-high 17 points and seven rebounds.

On Thursday (Dec. 21), Banks wrote his name into the record book as he broke the program record for most 3-pointers in a game with 10. In the first half alone, Banks connected for nine three-pointers to tie the program's three-point record, set by Fletcher Abee earlier this season on Nov. 18. Banks finished 10-for-18 from the field, with all 10 baskets coming from distance and was a perfect 3-for-3 from the free throw line to finish with a career-high 33 points.

In Asheville's redemption 79-70 win over Kennesaw State on Saturday (Dec. 23), Banks turned in another strong performance, finishing with 13 points and 11 rebounds, the first double-double of his career.

On the week, Banks finished 19-for-43 (.442) from the field, and 16-for-28 (.571) from the 3-point arc.

This is Banks' first Player of the Week honor and the Bulldogs' first weekly honor of the season.

Asheville will compete in its final game of the 2023 portion of its season on Friday, Dec. 29, as they travel to Birmingham, Ala., to face UAB at 8 p.m. EST.
