ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Swimming & Diving rallied to defeat Georgia Southern on Saturday (Dec. 16) in the Justice Center by a score of 192-108, extending their winning streak to six and their home winning streak to 12 straight duals dating back to Oct. 2020.

Asheville trailed Georgia Southern 28-10 after Friday's (Dec. 15) diving action. Asheville would go on to pick up nine wins on the day to bring the meet to its final score.

Asheville began the day with first place, second place and fourth place finishes in the 200 medley relay, led by the quartet of Alessia Cunegatti, Beatrice Cocconcelli, Taylor Smith and Abby Parks winning in 1:48.22. The team of Ava Kilpatrick, Gracelyn Cox, Danai Gkogkosi and Caroline Crouse finished second in 1:48.72, while Addison Wright, Jane Brierley, Tess Peny and Olivia Ciancimino finished fourth in 1:53.36. Asheville picked up second and fourth place finishes in the 1000 freestyle, with Anna Kate Halligan finishing second in 10:58.16 and Julie Lahiff finishing fourth in 11:13.59. Grace Adams posted a lifetime best in the mile in 17:29.23, while Caitlin Hefner finished second in the event in 17:35.12. Rose Sciaudone (18:18.05) and Gaby Shenot (18:38.71) also competed in the mile. Asheville posted second, third and sixth place finishes in the 200 freestyle, with Cocconcelli finishing second in 1:56.15, Kilpatrick taking third in 1:56.60 and Peny finishing sixth in 2:07.87.

Cunegatti posted a win in the 100 backstroke in 59.07 seconds, while Gkogkosi finished third in 59.76 seconds and Amelia Presley finished fourth in 1:01.49. Addison Wright finished the event in 1:02.58, while Rachel Daly also swam the event in 1:03.65. Asheville took the top three spots in the 100 breaststroke, led by a win from Taylor Smith in 1:06.51. Cox finished second in 1:07.23, while Brierley finished third in 1:08.35. Alexis Walker also swam the event in 1:13.21. Asheville would go on to get the win, second place and fifth place in the 200 butterfly with Riley Edmundson getting the win in 2:07.27. Crouse finished second in 2:07.90, while Chloe McDonald also finished fifth in 2:14.11. Abby Parks logged a win in the 50 freestyle in 24.25 seconds, while Ciancimino also finished second in 25.18 seconds and Addison Wright finished fifth in 26.33 seconds. Parks also picked up a win in the 100 freestyle in 51.64 seconds, while Crouse finished second in 53.85 seconds and Ciancimino finished fifth in 57.46 seconds. Adams also swam the event in 52.77 seconds, while Daly also finished in 56.23.

Cunegatti posted a win in the 200 backstroke in 2:07.05, while Kilpatrick finished third in 2:11.45. Presley also finished fifth in the event in 2:15.50, while Hefner swam the event in 2:14.59 and Peny finished in 2:18.84. Edmundson posted another win in the 200 breaststroke in 2:24.58, while Cocconcelli finished second in 2:26.12 and Cox finished third in 2:26.72. Shenot also swam the event in 2:34.03. Asheville finished second, third and fourth in the 500 freestyle led by Halligan in 5:22.71. Sciaudone finished third in 5:24.87, while Lahiff took fourth in 5:26.51. Asheville finished first, second and fourth in the 100 butterfly, with a win from Smith in 58.08 seconds. McDonald finished second in 58.11 seconds, while Gkogkosi finished fourth in 1:01.35. Brierley finished the event in 1:02.82, while Walker swam the event in 1:07.38. Asheville notched first place, second place and fifth place finishes in the 200 IM, with Cunegatti getting the win in 2:09.70. Edmundson finished second in 2:10.60, while Halligan also finished fifth in 2:14.93. Asheville finished the meet with a win, second place and fifth place in the 200 freestyle relay, with the team of Kilpatrick, Parks, Ciancimino and Crouse winning in 1:37.94. The quartet of Gkogkosi, Presley, Smith and Cocconcelli finished second in 1:38.99, while McDonald, Daly, Walker and Brierley finished fifth in 1:45.75.

"We had a strong two days of competing against Georgia Southern, a very tough squad," said head coach Elizabeth Lykins. "Friday was highlighted by honoring our senior diver Jade Canady, three personal records and a new school record in the 1M diving event by junior Morgan Coughlen. Saturday showcased the swimmers winning 9 individual events and both relays. It was a full team effort this weekend and a great wrap-up to our 2023 dual meet schedule."

The Bulldogs (6-1) return to action on Jan. 6 at Gardner-Webb in Atlantic Sun Conference action.
