12.14.2023 | Baseball
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Athletics announced Thursday that Atlanta Braves Hall of Famer Leo Mazzone will be the 2024 "Baseball Night in Asheville" keynote speaker. Baseball Night is scheduled for January 19 at 6 p.m. at Highland Brewing Company.
Mazzone was a staple of the Atlanta Braves Clubhouse and Dugout for over a quarter of a century. The Braves hired him as a pitching instructor in 1979, opening the door to a career path that would make him one of the most successful pitching coaches of all time. Over his 26-year career with Atlanta, Mazzone directed and led some of baseball's greatest pitching rotations, including the likes of John Smoltz, Tom Glavine, and Greg Maddux. Under Mazzone's instruction, Smoltz, Glavine and Maddux combined for six Cy Young Awards.
Mazzone's dominant pitching staff anchored the organization's run of 14 consecutive division titles, five National League pennants, and the 1995 World Championship. Mazzone was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame in 2022.
Baseball Night is proudly sponsored by Maxwell Financial, Twisted Laurel, and Highland Brewing. Get your tickets for Baseball Night by clicking HERE.
