Baseball Picked Fifth in the Big South Preseason Coaches’ Poll

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference released its annual Preseason Coaches' Poll as well as the League's Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year on Thursday. UNC Asheville was picked to finish fifth in the poll with 49 points.
Defending regular season and tournament champion Campbell was predicted to repeat as the Big South's top team in 2023 with 93 points. USC Upstate was not too far off the pace with 88 points followed by High Point (68 points), Gardner-Webb (65 points), and Asheville (49 points).
After the Bulldogs, Longwood (46 points), Charleston Southern (44), Presbyterian (42 points), Winthrop (30 points), and Radford (25 points) rounded out the poll.
Campbell's Drake Pierson and Cade Kuehler were named the Big South's Preseason Player and Pitcher of the Year, respectively.
Asheville, which is coming off a season where it finished third in the conference with a 14-9-1 record, will open the 2023 season on February 17-19 with a home series against Sacred Heart. The first and third games of the three-game series will be played at Greenwood Field, while the second game will be played at the Big League Camp facility in Marion, N.C.
