BIG SOUTH RELEASE

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday that UNC Asheville women's soccer players Bronwyn Luitwieler and Shae Hassig had been named the Big South's Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week, respectively.

Luitwieler was an integral part in Asheville posting a 1-0-1 record in the first week of Big South play. Luitwieler posted back-to-back clean sheets in a 0-0 draw vs. Winthrop and a 1-0 victory vs. Gardner-Webb. Furthermore, she made a total of 10 saves across those two contests. This shutout streak continues the impressive play for Luitwieler as she has not allowed a goal since September 1 vs. Western Carolina. Since that match vs. WCU, Luitwieler has kept Asheville's opponents off the scoreboard for nearly 200 minutes.

Hassig was one of Asheville's top players in the defensive backfield last week. Thanks in large part to her play, the Bulldogs did not allow a goal in their first two Big South matches vs. Winthrop (0-0) and Gardner-Webb (1-0 win).

Asheville will be back in action on Wednesday when it pays a visit to Charleston Southern for a Big South matchup. Kickoff between the Bulldogs and Buccaneers is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
