Chris Bresnahan Promoted to Associate Head Baseball Coach

07.22.2022 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Baseball Coach Scott Friedholm announced Friday the promotion of long-time Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Chris Bresnahan to the position of Associate Head Coach.

"I am very thankful for this opportunity and for the confidence Coach Friedholm, Athletic Director Janet R. Cone, and our Sports Supervisor David Jandrew have shown in me," said Bresnahan. "We have been building something special over the last eight years at UNC Asheville and I am very excited to continue that progress moving forward."

Bresnahan has been a member of Asheville's coaching staff since Friedholm arrived prior to the 2015 season. He has helped recruit and coach 10 All-Big South honorees during his tenure, which includes Asheville's all-time home run leader, Brandon Lankford (52 home runs), and the program's all-time saves leader, Kole Harris (17 saves).

"We are very excited to announce the promotion to Associate Head Coach for Breezy (Chris Bresnahan)," said Friedholm. "It is well deserved and his hard work on and off the field are really showing in our program today.  Breezy has earned the respect of the administration, fellow coaches, and players over the last eight years. He has also made his mark in the state of North Carolina on the recruiting trail with high school, junior college programs, and his peers. I could not be happier to make this announcement and would like to thank our administration for allowing it."

The hard work of Bresnahan, the players, and the rest of the coaching staff showed in 2022. After a tough non-conference schedule that included trips to Virginia Tech and Tennessee, the Bulldogs posted a 14-9-1 record in Big South play to finish in third place in the league standings. The third-place finish was tied for the best ever by the Bulldog baseball program and its best since the 1998 campaign.

Furthermore, Asheville's .604 winning percentage in Big South play set a new program benchmark surpassing the previous best winning percentage of .571 set back in 2003. The Bulldogs also won their first postseason game since 2017 when they knocked off High Point, 6-3, at the Big South Baseball Tournament in late May.
