Men’s Tennis alum Henry Patten to receive Wimbledon draw Friday
06.23.2022 | Men's Tennis
ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Former UNC Asheville Men's Tennis player Henry Patten (2019) knows he will be competing in the 2022 Wimbledon Tournament, but on Friday morning Patten and his partner, Julian Cash, will find out who and when they are playing at the 2022 Wimbledon Doubles Draw.
"We put together a pretty decent run, we made the semifinals of the first tournament we played then won the next three," Patten said of teaming with Cash. "So we knew we were in the conversation."
It was Tuesday, June 14 when the duo officially got word they would be competing in Wimbledon, and promptly followed that news up with a doubles title at the Ilkley Trophy this past weekend.
Like Patten, Cash is a native of the United Kingdom, hailing from Brighton. Cash started his collegiate career at Mississippi State before finishing at Oklahoma State.
One of the most decorated student-athletes of all-time at UNC Asheville, Patten was a three-time Big South Player of the Year winner, winning the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's (ITA) 2018 Fall National Championship with Oli Nolan.
"I've spent a lot of time at Wimbledon," Patten said. "I've watched, I've worked, so it's pretty satisfying to be walking around knowing I'm playing. But it definitely hasn't set in, but it's amazing…We'll be glued to the feeds (Saturday) and eager to find out who we play and when."
