UNC Asheville hosts first ASHPY's Award Ceremony since 2019

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Athletics was pleased to welcome back the annual ASHPY Awards Ceremony presented by the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee on Saturday night.
The show was the first since 2019, pausing the last two years due to COVID-19.
The end of the year ceremony celebrates accomplishments both on and off the field, handing out awards such as Student-Athlete of the Year, NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee, and Newcomer of the Year.
Each award is voted on by the student-athletes and their peers, and by athletic department staff.
Attended by all student-athletes, every senior was recognized by receiving graduation cords from their respective coaches on stage.
The night finished with Akin Williams of Track and Field and Nora Segurola of Swim and Dive receiving Bulldog of the Year, followed by concluding remarks from Athletic Director Janet Cone.
Award Winners:
Student-Athletes of the Year: Nadiria Evans, Women's Basketball, and Dominic Freeberger, Baseball
Newcomers of the Year: Drew Pember, Men's Basketball, and Caitlin Hefner, Swim and Dive
Bulldog of the Year: Akin Williams, Track and Field, and Nora Segurola, Swim and Dive
ACE Award: Dr. Laura Jones, Coordinator of Bulldog Mental Health Services
Clean Environments Dog Bowl Award: Track and Field
Bulldog Challenge Winners: Men's Soccer (most money raised) and Swim and Dive (most donors)
NCAA Woman of the Year Nominee: Claudia Prieto, Track and Field
Christenberry Award Nominees: Alice Walker, Women's Soccer, India Appleton, Cross Country, Gillian Oyos, Women's Soccer, Grace Volk, Volleyball, and Taylor Durall, Men's Soccer
