Women’s Basketball signs Taylor Wilkins to its recruiting class

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Women's Basketball Coach Honey Brown announced Thursday the addition of transfer Taylor Wilkins (New Orleans, La.) to her team's recruiting class. Wilkins comes to Asheville after spending last season playing for McNeese State.

"Taylor is a great addition to our Bulldog family," Brown said. "She brings a high basketball IQ and is a big time stat stuffer on the court. Taylor was All-State in high school and helped her team be very successful by scoring 20 points per game, rebounding on both ends, dishing out assists, taking charges, and being a leader. I believe she learned a lot in her freshman year of college and knows now what it takes to make an impact in college. I'm excited to get on the court with her and get to work."

In Wilkins' first season of collegiate basketball, she appeared in 20 games for McNeese State. Wilkins scored 57 points, grabbed 37 rebounds, totaled 12 assists, and added five steals for the Cowgirls, which included a pair of double-digit point outings. She netted a season-high 19 points against Ecclesia in early January and posted 13 points against Arkansas State in mid-November where she went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

Prior to going to McNeese State, Wilkins starred in high school at Mt. Caramel Academy where she was coached by her mother, Jamie Thomatis. As a senior, Wilkins averaged 23 points per game and five rebounds per game improving upon her numbers as a junior (14.7 PPG, 7.7 RPG). She helped her team post a 60-21 record on their way to three playoff appearances. Individually, Wilkins was a three-time All-District, two-time 5A All-State, an OTB 5A All-State, a LHSBCA All-State selection as a prep, while also being named to the LHSBCA All-Star Team and Clarion Herold Elite Team.

Wilkins joins Jada Brigman (Charlotte, N.C.) and Millie Brown (Nashville, Tenn.) as the newest group of Bulldogs that will join the program for the 2022-23 season.
