ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville men's basketball bolstered its frontcourt on Monday, with head coach Mike Morrell announcing the signing of Nick McMullen.
Hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina, McMullen spent his first two collegiate seasons competing for Ohio Valley Conference-power Murray State.
"We are thrilled to add Nick to our program, he brings a lot of winning experience from Murray State and shared the same court with Silas Mason in high school," Morrell said of McMullen. "His size and athleticism will translate well to our style of play. He will have a big impact on our program this coming season."
During his COVID-shortened freshman year (2020-21), McMullen appeared in 22 games, starting the final three contests of the season. McMullen shot 46.7 percent from the floor, registering career highs in points against Greenville (16) and rebounds against Jacksonville State (7).
This past year, McMullen appeared in all 34 games, averaging 10 minutes per game and grabbing 99 rebounds for a Racer squad that went 31-3, won the Ohio Valley Conference and advanced to the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
Before Murray State, the Greensboro native played his high school ball alongside current Bulldog Silas Mason at Ben L. Smith High School. As a senior, the forward averaged 15.5 points and 9.9 rebounds per game, earning All-Piedmont Triad 3A Conference honors and 3A All-State First Team recognition.
