Golf opens Big South Tournament with strong first round

Zaia sits T-8 through one
NINETY SIX, S.C. – The UNC Asheville Women's Golf team are right in the thick of things through round one of the 2022 Big South Championship, sitting in a tie for sixth place (11 teams) as Venecia Zaia is tied for eighth place individually.
The tournament, which is being played at The Patriot Club at Grand Harbor, will resume tomorrow morning beginning at 8:00 a.m.
On the first nine, Zaia was even par through four, birdieing hole No. 5, finishing 2-over-par on the front. The Murrieta, California native was even better on the second nine, shooting one-over to finish with a 3-over-par 75.
Despite struggling a bit on the back nine, Phoebe Carles carded an impressive one-under on the first nine to finish 5-over-par through 18 holes. Hailey Pendleton and Madyson Gold finished just one stroke apart, shooting 79 and 80, respectively.
